A man was recently arrested in Lancaster, New York for DWI. However, this was not your average motor vehicle – he was on a riding lawnmower.
Lancaster police responded to reports of a man on a lawn tractor in the road and interfering with traffic. Joseph M. Simme, 47, was apparently almost struck by oncoming vehicles, which prompted the emergency calls. Upon running a computer check on Simme, police learned that he had a revoked license as a result of prior DWI convictions. According to Gene Warner, staff reporter for The Buffalo News, he was charged with “felony aggravated unlicensed operation and operating an unregistered vehicle in the roadway.” Simme was also accused of having a blood-alcohol level of 0.14.
