Colorado DUI Checkpoints: 4th of July 2011

The Fourth of July is a celebratory time for most, with numerous events happening in and around the Denver area.   While local law enforcement agencies certainly hope for a safe and sober weekend, the holiday is generally filled with alcohol-fueled celebrations, community gatherings, and sporting events.  As such, the majority of local law enforcement agencies will be increasing the number of officers on patrol for the Fourth of July Weekend.  Currently, the following agencies are listed as having increased or saturation patrols:

INCREASED AND SATURATION PATROL ACROSS THE FRONT RANGE

Alamosa County Sheriff – June 30- July 5: Increased patrol operations from the patrol division during the enforcement period.

Alamosa Police Department – July 3-July 5: Increased patrol.

Arvada Police DepartmentJuly 1-5: Increased patrol.  One additional officer per night for two nights for impaired driving.

Auraria Campus Police – June 30 – July 5: Increased patrol.  The Auraria Campus Police will have 1 dedicated DUI officer for increased DUI patrol and on duty DUI officers working DUI Saturation.

Aurora Police Department – June 30- July 5: Saturation patrol.

Avon Police Department – June 30-July 1: Increased patrol.  July 1- July 5: Saturation patrol.

Baca County – June 30 – July 5: Increased patrol.

Boulder County Sheriff – July 1-5: Increased patrol.

Calhan Police Department – July 2-July 5: Increased patrol.

Castle Rock Police Department – June 30- July 5: Saturation patrol

Colorado Springs Police Department – June 30- July 5: Saturation patrol.

Commerce City Police Department – June 30- July 5: Increased patrol.  3 dedicated DUI only shifts will be deployed throughout the enforcement period.

Cortez Police Department – June 30 – July 5: Increased patrol.

Colorado State Patrol – Castle Rock – June 30 – July 5: Increased trooper patrol focusing on DUI.  Working areas that have high incident of DUI.

Colorado State Patrol – Adams County – July 1-4: Saturation patrol.  Troopers will be focusing on roadways used by DUI motorists following events happening in the area or other events located in adjacent communities.  Troopers will also be using information provided to them about specific DUI crash hot spots.

Colorado State Patrol – Canon City – June 30- July 5: Increased patrol.

Colorado State Patrol – Colorado Springs – June 30 – July 5: Increased patrol.  Colorado Springs will dedicate 3 additional officers for increased DUI patrol over the enforcement period.

Colorado State Patrol – Pueblo – July 1- 5: Increased patrol.

Colorado State Patrol – Cripple Creek – June 30 – July 5: Increased patrol.  Teller County will dedicate 2 additional officers for DUI patrol during the enforcement period.

Colorado State Patrol – Fort Collins – June 30 – July 5: Saturation patrol.

Colorado State Patrol – Craig – June 30 – July 5: Saturation patrol.

Colorado State Patrol – Golden – June 30 – July 5: Increased patrol.  There will be increased patrol for impaired drivers in areas known for DUI caused crashes.

Colorado State Patrol – Broomfield – June 30 – July 5: Saturation patrol.  Saturation patrol will be conducted during the enforcement period with an emphasis on DUI enforcement.

Denver Police Department – July 1-5: Increased patrol.  The DUI unit will add extra officers for each of the remaining shifts during the enforcement period.

Douglas Police Department – July 1-4: Increased patrol.  Increased patrol in the highest populated portions of Douglas County.

Edgewater Police Department – June 30- July 5: Increased patrol.

Fort Collins Police Department – July 1-4: Saturation patrol.  There will be 1 extra officer working saturation patrol each night of the enforcement period.  The focus of the saturation patrol will be on the downtown area and City Park July 4th event.

Fort Morgan Police Department – July1-3: Increased patrol.

Frederick Police Department – June 30 – July 4: Saturation patrol.

Garfield County Sherriff – July 1-4: Increased patrol.

Gilpin County Sherriff – June 30 – July 3: Increased patrol.

Glenwood Springs Police Department – June 30 – July 5: Saturation patrol. 

Grand Junction Police Department – June 30 – 6 p.m. – 2 a.m.: Saturation patrol

Greenwood Village Police Department – July 1-5: Increased patrol.  The Greenwood Village PD has designated 35 hours for officer’s participation in the campaign.

Haxtun Police Department – June 30 – July 5 – 2 p.m. – 3 a.m.: Increased patrol.

Idaho Springs Police Department – July 1-5: Increased patrol.

Jefferson County Sheriff – July 1-5: Saturation patrol.

Lakewood Police Department – June 30- July 5: Saturation patrol.

Larimer County Sherriff – June 30 – July 5: Increased patrol.

Log Lane Village Marshall’s Office – June 30 – July 5: Increased patrol.

Longmont Police Department – July 1-4: Increased patrol.   Officers from the Longmont Police Department will be conducting increased impaired driving patrols on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday nights during the 4th of July weekend.

Loveland Police Department – July 1-4: Saturation patrol.  Multi-agency saturation patrol focused on historically problematic areas in and around Loveland/Fort Collins.

Mancos Marshal’s Office – June 30 – July 5: Increased patrol.

Montezuma County Sherriff – June 30 – 6 p.m. – 3 a.m.: Increased patrol

Morgan County Sherriff – June 30 – July 5: Increased patrol.

Parker Police Department – July 2-5: Increased patrol.  The Parker Police Department will assign 3 dedicated DUI officers over the 4th of July weekend.

Pueblo Police Department – June 30-July 5: Increased patrol.

Pueblo County Sherriff – June 30 – July 5: Saturation patrol.  A saturation patrol with 15 deputies dedicated to DUI enforcement duties.

Saguache County Sheriff – July 1-5: Saturation patrol on 7/2 in the Center area.

Silt Police Department – July1 – 4: Increased patrol.

Steamboat Springs Police Department – July 1-5: Increased patrol.  Scheduled dedicated impaired driving enforcement shifts every night over the holiday weekend.  The officers working these shifts will get assistance from regularly scheduled officers working patrol shifts.

Summit County Sherriff – June 30 – July 5: Increased patrol.  Summit County will increase patrol due to the many events scheduled during the holiday weekend.

Weld County Sherriff – June 30 – July 5: Increased patrol.

Wheat Ridge Police Department – July 1-4: Increased patrol.

Woodland Park Police Department – June 30 – July 5: Saturation patrol.  The Woodland Park Police Department will deploy 1-2 officers a day until completion of the enforcement period.

In addition to a general increase of patrol officers throughout Colorado, there will also be several DUI checkpoints set up for the July 4th weekend.  Currently, the following checkpoints have been listed by the Colorado Department of Transportation for the 4th of July weekend:

Colorado State Patrol – Greeley – June 30 – July 5: One Traditional Checkpoint – 9 p.m. until 3 a.m.

Denver Police Department – June 30- July 1: Two Roving Checkpoints – 8 p.m. until 4 a.m.

Larimer County Sherriff – July 3: Two Roving Checkpoints – 2 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Westminster Police Department – July 1-2: One Traditional Checkpoint – 9 p.m. until 3 a.m.
